Nicholas Smith
February 13, 1990 - May 1, 2011
Dear CNU Community, if you have any pictures of Nick you would like to share please email Kelly at [email protected] and they will be posted as soon as possible. Also if you have a caption or thought you would like included with the picture please include that in the email. Thank you.
In Loving Memory of Nick SmithAs you know from the message you have already received from Dean Hughes, our friend and brother Nick Smith passed into eternal life. Those of us still on campus have been supporting one another through this difficult time and made every effort to meet with or at least telephone the closest of Nick’s friends prior to CNU’s release of this sad news earlier tonight. We have spent time in the hospital with Nick and with his family. We have prayed together, held one another, told stories, laughed, cried, and wished you were with us.
Aware that our faith will sustain us, I pray that the pain of our loss will heal gently as we love and support one another across the miles. Know that I am here for you. Do call or come anytime. Be assured that I will be back in touch when funeral arrangements are complete. At this point we know only that it will be in Charlottesville most likely later this week. All who are in Newport News are welcome to ride together if you wish. Carpooling will be available from Northern Virginia, as well. When we return to campus next semester, we will celebrate Mass for Nick and present a gift to CNU in his memory. Love and blessings! Campus Memorial
On May 1, 2011, we lost a loving brother, a great friend, and an amazing person, Nicholas Hallvard Todd Smith. In memory of Nick, Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity and Catholic Campus Ministry will be honoring Nick with the planting of a tree and plaque on Christopher Newport University's campus.
The ceremony and planting will take place on March 23rd at 5:15pm. It will be on East Campus of CNU on the Warwick Blvd. side of the CNU Apartments.
Since Nick enjoyed wearing Hawaiian shirts so much, we ask everyone to wear a Hawaiian shirt in his memory.
We hope that all of you can join us in celebrating Nick's life and help us in remembering Nick by taking part in the dedication of this tree that will be here for many years to come.
